Join SOM’s Year One Program as a Junior Computational Designer – Architecture. Our Year One program picks up where your formal education leaves off, with a suite of events and creative initiatives to help you get the most out of your first year at SOM. Responsibilities

  • Provides computational design input to projects during all phases, including design ideation, geometric exploration, modeling, documentation, visualization, and various types of analysis.
  • Alongside Computational Design Lead, works closely with design teams to propose, evaluate and develop systems-based models using code and parametric models, setting up various types of analysis along the design process.
  • Maintains interoperability of workflows and manages data flows.
  • Promotes dialogue between research and development and project applications.
  • Produces presentation and deliverables such as diagrams, data visualization, 3D models, drawings, renderings, physical prototypes and animations.

Requirements

  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch)
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, JavaScript) is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Grasshopper.
  • Demonstrated experience creating engaging data visualizations.
  • A good design eye, and a creative thinker.
  • Interest in creation of architectural geometry, design space exploration, design refinement.
  • Passion for integrated design and knowledge of structure or building physics welcomed.
  • Interest in harnessing new technologies and insights from adjacent disciplines in the design process.
